September 21, 2011 September Update

Although the Volunteer Centre has continued to be busy over the summer months, September is getting off to an exceptional start. With children starting back at school and more and more organisations registering with us as needing volunteers, we are able to match even more people who want to make good use of their spare time. College students hoping to pursue a course on Health & Social Care are finding they need to have volunteering experience and young mums who now have their children settled in school are starting to look at ways back into paid employment. Here are some of our latest opportunities:-

Beccles Public Hall and Theatre:
Beccles Lido Ltd is leading a new group that is in negotiation with Waveney District Council to purchase, and take over the running of Beccles Public Hall. As they progress towards taking over the ownership of the building they are compiling a database of volunteers of all skills and abilities who will help them to run and maintain the Public Hall, both now and in the future. They are looking initially for people with skills and experience in:- architecture, surveying, structural engineering, building, electrician, heating engineer, plumbing, carpentry, painter and decorators, plastering, etc. Later on they will be looking for volunteers to take on the roles of:- front of house, bar/kitchen staff, fundraising, sewing (curtains, tablecloths, etc), accountant, book-keeper, administrator, etc.

Clinks Care Farm:
Is looking for people to help with their market gardening project, raising plants from sees, polytunnels, planting out, weeding and harvesting of vegetables.

Crossroads Care Waveney:
Currently recruiting volunteers with business skills such as fundraising, marketing, finance, HR and Health and Safety, etc to join their Trustee Board.

Halesworth Area Community Transport:
Would appreciate volunteers for driving their minibuses and passenger assistants to help people on and off the buses.

Multiple Sclerosis Society:
Is looking for Branch Chairperson and Branch Secretary to work alongside the current officers for the next six months with a view to taking over the roles. Over the next two years they will be the roles of Branch Support officers so they need volunteers for this too.

1 December 2009

Despite Christmas only being a short time away we have had organisations contacting us with new opportunities. Tasks include approaching sponsors, selling ducks (from around March) and creating new ideas in which they can promote the Duck Race. There are 1000 ducks to be cleaned up following the race held this year.

Still in the Beccles area, Ringsfield & Weston Community Council & Village Hall Committee is looking for a Minutes Secretary to prepare and distribute agendas and meeting papers, correspondence as directed by the Council, taking notes and preparing minutes of the meetings which are held monthly.
